GEMS Description:
GEMS is designed to capture the imagination using essential science and math themes, concepts and methods. Developed at the University of Berkley at Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science, GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) Teacher Guides utilize a child's natural curiosity about his/her environment to teach math as well as reading, social science, art, and science. Learn exciting ways to teach your class about penguins, butterflies, oceans, secret formulas and much more!
GEMS Teacher Guides:
· Clearly organized and easy-to-use
· Aligned to national science and mathematics standards
· Each session includes:
- overview - preparation steps
- material list - clear step-by-step instructions
· Require no special training or background in math or science
· Easily adaptable to lower or higher grades
· Include background information, along with photos, illustrations and student examples
· Full of practical advice and presentation strategies from teachers who tested the unit
Cost:
$50 - If registering for more than 2 workshops, you may register at $40 per workshop.
GEMS guides are available for purchase at workshops; Participants may purchase guides at 20% off retail.
GEMS Workshops:
Workshops occur Sundays from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Two GEMS topics will be included at each workshop session.
