![]() Merger FAQsQ: What will happen at Wonderscope with the new merger? A: Beyond the Book board members have been appointed to the Wonderscope Board, so we have some great new board members. The BTB Executive Director, Lauranne Hess, was also appointed to the Board so will be very actively involved. We are excited to have some new BTB programming starting up this July and into the Fall. You can also expect to see some changes in some of the Wonderscope exhibits and programming as we expand them to include some new literacy components. Q: What is Beyond the Book? A: They are a relatively new organization which started three years ago. Up to this point, they have gone out to schools and libraries and done programs that incorporate art, science and literacy. Their vision was to build a large children’s museum, so it was a good fit for us to work with them rather than compete to create a great museum for Kansas City. We are excited to integrate Beyond the Book’s current programs, ideas and strengths into Wonderscope. Q: Are you going to move out of Shawnee? Are you going to build something new? A: The new combined Board will make that decision and they are looking at lots of possibilities regarding renovating this building or building a new museum. I do know that they are committed to doing a capital campaign that would enable us to create some wonderful new exhibits and expand our programming. Right now, we are excited about the new external improvements to this building, the new Amazing Airways exhibit and a unique Asian cultural exhibit open this summer called Hmong at Heart. Q: How is this vision different or unique? A: The new vision builds on Wonderscope’s strong tradition of providing wonderful, hands-on art and science experiences and strengthens that experience with a stronger literacy component. As we look at the landscape in Kansas City, we will be serving those families with young children 10 and under with a family destination that is a truly magical experience and sparks a lifelong love of learning! Q. Will you be changing your name? A: At this point, we will stay Wonderscope while we are in the current location. As we look to creating a new museum, we will also be considering a new name that communicates our mission to the community. | 5700 King ~ Shawnee, KS 66203 |
