Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City completed our Exhibit Master Plan in July 2008.  Our Master Plan  includes a learning framework and conceptual drawings for exhibits for our new expanded regional children's museum. After we finished the Master Plan, a site selection committee was formed to develop criteria and evaluate site/location options.  We have not yet chosen our site. Our capital campaign to build the new museum is in the planning stage.

Although we have not yet launched the capital campaign for the new museum, we are still actively moving toward our vision for the future.

Our immediate goals include the following:

  •      •  Keep the Wonderscope exhibit and program experience strong in our current facility
  •      •  Expand our outreach in the Kansas City metropolitan area through Wonderscope on Wheels and Wonderscope Live
  •      •  Strengthen operations and build systems for the new museum
  •      •  Expand opportunities for earned income and contributed revenues
  •      •  Using the Master Plan as a guide, prototype, evaluate and refine exhibits and programs for the new museum

We are planning for the next phase of the new museum project:

  •      •  Launch an integrated fundraising campaign to build the new museum, support the current facility and provide for long-term financial stability (capital, annual, endowment)
  •      •  Develop the project timeline
  •      •  Choose the site for the new museum
  •      •  Complete the exhibit and building design

Initial budget projections indicate that we will need to raise between 15 and 20 million dollars to design, build and open our new museum. This museum will build on a strong tradition and bring a new and exciting resource for Kansas City.
